It started with a trip

Long before Burgerspotting lived on a screen, it all started with curiosity and a family that loved food. Curt Bergfors and Britta Fredriksson opened the first MAX restaurant in Gällivare in 1968, and traveling the world to taste, learn and gather inspiration became part of family life.

As a boy, Richard Bergfors came along. It was on those trips, at the counters of tiny street stalls and grand institutions alike, that a fascination with the perfect burger took hold and never quite let go.

From passenger to CEO

The curiosity never faded. Richard grew up inside the family business and in time took over as CEO. Under his leadership MAX grew dramatically, from a Swedish favorite into one of the Nordics' most loved burger chains, expanding to around 200 restaurants across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Poland.

But the hunt for the next genuinely great burger carried on. Wherever he traveled, for work or for fun, he sought out the places everyone was talking about and made up his own mind, one burger at a time.

How Burgerspotting was born

Eventually, Richard started sharing the hunt. On @burgerspotting he gathered reviews, verdicts and discoveries from all over the world, and today more than 545,000 people follow along for the ride.

This site brings it all together in one place: the reviews, the map and the burgers that have earned a spot in the Hall of Burger. Welcome to the hunt.
